Which came first...the chicken or the egg???

~ The Turkey, The Rooster, and the Colonel with cousins and Great- Grandma & Great-Grandpa ~
Our morning drive today was spent with the discussion of "Which comes first...work or play?"
Well, today was the Turkey's turn to have some issues regarding when assignments are due!!! Mother Hen learned of some vocab cards that were due today, last night! The problem was that we did not have the vocab book to complete the assignment...another OOPS!!! This led to the Turkey's slight meltdown of
**I don't know why I only have 1 week to do these cards...
**Why do we have to have homework anyway?
**Why do we have to go to school?
**I never have ANY free time.
We have these discussions periodically, and I remind him of
**the 2 hours he played gamecube on Sat
**2 hours of baseball practice
**1 hour of playing with the baby goats
**1 hour of jumping on the trampoline
**etc.
He began to calm down and the Lord put an awesome teaching moment in front of us! We talked about how responsiblities must be a priority!!
I reminded them that it doesn't matter what age you are, you still have responsibilites that must be taken care of...before the fun stuff gets to happen!
This led to "what would happen if Daddy didn't complete his jobs on time? What would happen if Mommy didn't have everything ready for the JBF sale? They were reminded how Grammie & Pops didn't get to come to the previous basketball games because they were taking care of responsiblites. We then talked about Great-Grandma and her responsibilites.
Then, the young birds saw the greatest comparison ever!
What about Great-Grandpa? Does he have any responsiblites, now? They began to discuss how he has farmed for 65 years, but now his mind is not thinking very clearly and he doesn't have any more work that has to be done. I asked them if they could think of anyone else that doesn't have any responsiblities and the Rooster said, "P.K." (P.K. is our 26 year old, male friend who has been in a coma for 6 weeks due to a brain trauma from a car accident) I asked him why and they replied, "because he's still asleep".
WOW!!! I believe the light came on for 3 young boys. A comparison of a 26 year old young man & an 86 year old farmer revealed to us that...
while we are able...
work comes before play.

The Top of the Roost!

What we love about "Cock-a-Doodle-Doo"...

The Turkey (who got the "lovin' life" gene from daddy) - "We are the back-woods buddies! We love to hunt, camp, fish, and ride ATV's together!"

The Colonel (who inherited the compassion gene from daddy) - "He takes time to play with me, he goes to all my games, he takes me hunting, and he plays tickle-bug with me!"

The Rooster (who is a mini-me of daddy) - "He plays with me, he tickles me, I get to do some work with him!"

Mother Hen - (who was now lived 1/2 my life with him)He's my best friend, he's rock solid, compassionate, giving, hard-working, a handy-man, great businessman, wonderful husband, and an involved daddy.

Not a good mornin' in the Chicken Coop!

~The Rooster and The Colonel~
???Have you ever felt like they look???
Golly...Mother Hen failed to make sure everyone's ducks were all in a row last night!!! Normally, our mornings are smooth sailin'...BUT...boy howdy...today was all but smooth sailin.
As I mentioned before, the Colonel is detail oriented. He can tell you what and when everything is due; the problem is he can't find it when it's ready to be turned in! He has not been bitten by the organized bug! So...
the Colonel had the following issues right as we needed to be walking out the door:
  • could not locate his hoodie
  • was frantically (slowly) looking for his shoes
  • had a "braces" issue which caused very slow eating
  • realized he had not completed a homework assignment due today
  • had brain cramps while trying to complete the assignment quickly
  • forgot to pack a lunch
  • blamed everyone for hiding the lunch bag (eventually found it in the vehicle)

This, of course, upset the Turkey immensely, as the minutes were ticking by! He reminded us frequently, what time it was going to be when he flew into school. We have not been this late all year. In fact, we have not been this late to school...ever!!!

Everything finally came together and we loaded up. We only had to turn around once for an attitude adjustment!!! As we song our "Have a good day" song, I just had to chuckle! The Colonel and the Turkey hopped out and before the door closed I reminded them, "Now, go on to Chapel and learn about God!!!"

After all...we were only 14 minutes late!!!

It doesn't matter what we are doing, this bird is bound to have fun! He is quick witted, comical, loyal, intelligent, a voracious reader, and a great friend. He is loved by everyone, especially the rest of the coop! We are truly blessed to have him as the firstborn (although we do remind him periodically, "it's NOT...all about you")!!! He is the oldest of 3 boys! He is...the Turkey!!!
